Laylatul Qadr, which is also called Shab-e-Qadr, is one of the most sacred nights in the Islamic calendar. This blessed night occurs on the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan. It holds great importance and virtue for Muslims.
The Quran also mentions the greatness of this night:
إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ
وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ
لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ
“Indeed, We sent it (the Quran) down on the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what the Night of Decree is? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.”
Surah Al-Qadr,
Those people who are fortunate to get the opportunity to witness this night and spend it in worship, prayers, remembrance of Allah(S.W.A), and supplication. No matter how much its virtue is described, it still cannot fully capture the greatness and blessings of this special night.
Odd Nights of Laylatul Qadr 2026
The exact date of Laylatul Qadr has not been clearly mentioned in the Quran. This is so that believers continue to search for it and try to gain closeness to their Merciful Lord through worship. However, some signs and guidance have been given. It is mentioned that Laylatul Qadr should be searched for in the last ten nights of Ramadan, especially on the odd nights.
This means that for us, every odd night should be treated as if it could be Laylatul Qadr. Muslims should spend these nights in worship, prayer, remembrance of Allah(S.W.A), and asking for forgiveness, because any one of these nights could be the blessed night of Shab-e-Qadr.
In Ramadan 2026, the expected odd nights in the last ten days of Ramadan are likely to fall on:
10 March 2026 (21st night)
12 March 2026 (23rd night)
14 March 2026 (25th night)
16 March 2026 (27th night)
18 March 2026 (29th night)
These nights are a great opportunity for Muslims to increase their worship and seek the mercy and forgiveness of Allah(S.W.A).
The Blessings of Laylatul Qadr
Laylatul Qadr is a special night. It is better than a thousand months. This means that anything we do to worship on this night is like doing it for 83 years. The good things we get from Laylatul Qadr are too many to count. On this night, the Quran was given to our Prophet.
The greatness of Laylatul Qadr is something we cannot even describe. The friends of the Prophet would start praying and asking Allah for the chance to see Ramadan and especially Laylatul Qadr, a time before it happens.
We are very lucky if we get to see Ramadan and experience Laylatul Qadr. On nights, people turn to Allah in prayer, asking for forgiveness for themselves and the people they love, and they spend their time worshiping.
So what should we do on Laylatul Qadr?
- We should do prayers on certain nights.
- Read the Quran.
- Ask Allah(S.W.A) for forgiveness. Really mean it.
- We should remember Allah(S.W.A).
- People should give to those who need help.
All these things are the ways to get close to Allah(S.W.A) and get His mercy on Laylatul Qadr.
The Blessings of Laylatul Qadr
Laylatul Qadr is a blessed night whose rewards are greater than those of a thousand months. This means that any act of worship performed on this night is equivalent to almost 83 years of worship. Its blessings are countless. On this night, the Quran was revealed completely to our beloved Prophet (P.B.U.H).
The greatness of this night is beyond words. The Companions of the Prophet (P.B.U.H) would start praying and asking Allah(S.W.A) for the opportunity to witness Ramadan, and especially Laylatul Qadr, months in advance.
Truly fortunate are those Muslims who are blessed to witness Ramadan and gather the mercy and blessings of this night with both hands. On the odd nights, they turn to their Lord in prayer, asking for forgiveness for themselves and their loved ones, and spend the time in worship.
So what should we do?
- Perform extra prayers on the odd nights
- Recite the Quran
- Make sincere supplications and ask Allah(S.W.A) for forgiveness
- Engage in remembrance of Allah(S.W.A) (dhikr)
- Give charity
All these actions are the best ways to gain closeness to Allah(S.W.A) and earn His mercy during this blessed night.
Duas to Recite on Laylatul Qadr
There is no specific dua you are required to say on Laylatul Qadr. Any prayer that comes from your heart is okay. Some scholars say that certain prayers are better than others.
For example, you can say:
“اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ العَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي”
This means:
“O Allah(S.W.A), you are a God who forgives, and you like to forgive, so please forgive me.”
You can also say:
“اللهم أصلح أمة محمد، اللهم فرج عن أمة محمد، اللهم ارحم أمة محمد“
This means:
“O Allah(S.W.A), please make things better for the people who follow Muhammad, help them when they are struggling, and be kind to them.”
Another prayer you can say is:
“رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّار“
This means:
“Our Lord, please give us things in this life and in the next life and protect us from the fire of Hell.”
You can also say:
“اللّهُمَّ أَجِرْنِي مِنَ النَّارِ”
This means:
“O Allah(S.W.A), please protect me from the Hellfire.”
The thing that matters most is that you say your prayers with sincerity and faith. You can say these prayers. You can say anything else that you want to say to Allah. Laylatul Qadr is a night for making prayers, so you should try to say some prayers on this night.
